Festa della Sensa used to be a feast of the Republic of Venice held on the occasion of the Ascension Day. It has been revived in modern times (1965). A colorful procession of decorated boats leaves from St. Mark’s Square and sails to the Port of San Nicolo, Lido, where a gold ring is tossed into the sea in a ceremony known as the “Marriage of the Sea”.
