New on 500px : The Awakening (II) by roberto_pazzi by roberto_pazzi

The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park.
It’s declared a national park in 1982 and it is located in East Java, Indonesia, to the east of Malang and to the southeast of Surabaya.
It is the only conservation area in Indonesia that has a sand sea, across which is the caldera of an ancient volcano (Tengger) from which four new volcanic cones have emerged.
This unique feature covers a total area of 5,250 hectares.
The massif also contains the highest mountain in Java, Mount Semeru (about 3,700 m), 4 lakes, 50 rivers and the volcano Bromo (it’s the one smoking in the picture).
The Bromo is an active volcano and its summit is about 2,400 meters s.l.m.. The last eruption was in November 2011.
Its name is derived from Javanese pronunciation of Brahma, the creator god of Hinduism.
