New on 500px : Skyward Colors by miketlim by miketlim

No visit to Page, AZ is complete without a visit to the slot canyons surrounding town. This is my second year in a row visiting Page, AZ and it still continues to amaze.

Re-edited this photo which I posted a few months ago to fix some issues I was unhappy with.

It’s hard to pick a favorite image, but I think that this is up there for me. This is the image that I’ve been longing for since I started photography about two years ago. Mt. Rainier and wildflowers go hand in hand and to be able to finally photograph them, together is something I’ve been looking forward to for a long time. This was taken in early morning light on Sun Top lookout at 7,500 ft near HWY 410. Thanks a ton to my girlfriend’s dad for finding this really cool location. This image wouldn’t have been possible without his insight. This is what I hope to be the first of several wildflower images from the mountains this summer!

New on 500px : Nature’s Subtleties by cwexplorationphotography by cwexplorationphotography

This past weekend my gf’s dad was kind enough to show me some areas I hadn’t seen near Mt. Rainier. This image comes from an unmarked forest road near Sun Top lookout on HWY 410 by Mt. Rainier. I bushwhacked through a stand of old Alder trees and stumbled across a single patch of these bright pink and blue flowers. I had never seen anything like this in the high country before and it was the only patch of flowers like this in the area. I went off to scout the area for some more meadows and such but I couldn’t get this image out of my head, so I decided to come back and photograph this area.

This is 8 images focus stacked and 2 for dynamic range. These flowers were extremely tiny and I was essentially down on the ground trying to photograph them, lots of fun!

“Never cut a tree down in the wintertime. Never make a negative decision in the low time. Never make your most important decisions when you are in your worst moods. Wait. Be patient. The storm will pass. The spring will come.” – Robert H. Schuller

I had never really shot the Tacoma Narrows before so I figured shooting it on the longest day of the year with amazing weather conditions might do it some justice. This was shot from the Tacoma side of the bridge through the railing of an overpass (which was a little sketchy but fun). The bridge really is an architectural marvel; especially being the fact that the first one famously collapsed during a wind storm in 1940. Any who it was a fun shoot and the photo itself encompasses some 15 separate exposures; lots of work but worth it!

New on 500px : Brother by Barisparildar by Barisparildar

Last 10 days was all about having the greatest time with my brother. He has 2 kids and lives far from US. We did not have time together for a long time. So when he called and said he was gonna visit me couple months ago I have already decided what to do when he is in California with me, a long road trip.

We bought him a new camera as soon as he arrived to LA. He already knew using a camera but did not have time to practice. So I tried to show him lots of places and at the same time showed him some tricks about photography. How to expose, compose and other little stuff I learned in the past years.

I can’t describe how beautiful time has passed. He now knows his camera so well that sometimes he is faster than me to take a picture now.

I am grateful that I had this opportunity to spend time with him after years.

This is one of the many shots I took on the trip. We were unlucky about weather most of the time. There was fog everywhere we stopped. We didn’t see much of a good light. But at this moment clouds made a dramatic scene and created a beautiful light before sunset.

Ancient Neighbors; Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest, California. This tree may be old (4-5000 years) but it is dwarfed in comparison by the 13.2 billion year old Milky Way that watches above. I first shot here back in October of last year when it was 9 degrees out (with fresh cougar tracks in the snow) and made the decision to come back when the threat of death wasn’t as likely. I’m glad I did since the summer MW is brightest this time of year. Enjoy!

Lavender fields bloom from mid June to mid August, depending on the area and the seasonal weather. Best is from the last week in June through July. Lavender is harvested from July to September.
