New on 500px : The Edge Of Perception by Shainblum by Shainblum

BEST ON BLACK!

Here is a new photograph from one of my favorite spots in California, Santa Ynez. The rolling hills with giant oak trees makes for some awesome foreground with the Milky Way. The bright spots on the horizon is not the sun setting, but actually the Light Pollution from Los Angeles county. I hope you guys enjoy the photograph.

I teach workshops for photography and timelapse on Skype, click here if you are interested in learning more.

New on 500px : Cave of Dreams by andrewcooneyphoto by andrewcooneyphoto

I’ve spent more times hear than any other location, waiting for all elements to come together. They finally did with this cracker Sunrise a few Months back. This cave is tiny and even when laying down, your still just a few inches from hitting your head. The shot is totally worth it, however 🙂

McWay Falls, Big Sur, California

While waiting for the Milky Way to rise a couple weeks ago I decided to play with some star trails–not usually my cup of tea but thought it was the perfect opportunity to let the D800E I was borrowing do its thing while I was sprawled out on the ground, listening to the crashing waves and watching for shooting stars.

Every now and then I like these shorter star trails, and once the Milky Way rose the 45 minutes dedicated to this shot was enough. I feel night photography is often even more open-ended than general landscape work, and sometimes I embrace the hell out of light pollution. A large boat was making its way north and added the warm glow, the Milky Way rose in the middle of the trails on the left and because of personal taste I use really cold white balances when shooting the night sky–it just happens to fit into my work flow. And I think it added to this wanna-be-Alex-Grey-esque psychedelic scene.

Looks like it’s that time of year where Pfeiffer Beach photos start hitting the feeds! Let’s add to them with my version of this photo of the sunbeam through keyhole arch. Remember to get to this location early, as the tripod line is always tough to force your way into if you arrive late. Or, go in the middle of the night for a unique shot of this popular location.

My favorite tree found in my favorite area in Paso Robles Wine Country. I’m jonesin’ for the Milky Way to start coming out earlier to shoot at this location again.

I was zoomed in at 70mm on this, thus the really high ISO to keep my shutter speed as fast as possible.

New on 500px : The Show II by silentgphotography by silentgphotography

As everyone and their dog posted images from Winter Solstice at Pfeiffer Beach in Big Sur I thought after the initial post I’d space mine as much as possible….but it’s not easy. When you see something this spectacular and have a hundred images you want to work on, it’s a test of will-power to be patient.

After the Big Sur fire in December the road to Pfeiffer was closed, but a local resident got a few of us in through a back road. Look at that sand. Not a single footprint. After this experience I’m not sure I’ll be shooting here at Solstice for many years to come, but it’s still my favorite beach on earth.

New on 500px : Cave of Light by andrewcooneyphoto by andrewcooneyphoto

A pretty spectacular little Cave on the Central Coast NSW. I have shot here a few times now but finally got a decent sky. The Cave is actually tiny and I had to squeeze myself in quite uncomfortably. Great location!
