New on 500px : Nyhavn by Terra70 by Terra70

Nyhavn (Danish pronunciation: [ˈnyhɑʊ̯ˀn]) (literally: New Harbour) is a 17th-century waterfront, canal and entertainment district in Copenhagen, Denmark. Stretching from Kongens Nytorv to the harbour front just south of the Royal Playhouse, it is lined by brightly coloured 17th and early 18th century townhouses and bars, cafes and restaurants. Serving as a “heritage harbour”, the canal has many historical wooden ships.
Nyhavn was constructed by King Christian V from 1670 to 1673, dug by Swedish war prisoners from the Dano-Swedish War 1658–1660. It is a gateway from the sea to the old inner city at Kongens Nytorv (King’s Square), where ships handled cargo and fishermens’ catch. It was notorious for beer, sailors, and prostitution. Danish author Hans Christian Andersen lived at Nyhavn for some 18 years.

The first bridge across Nyhavn opened on 6 February 1875. It was a temporary wooden footbridge.[1] It was replaced by the current bridge in 1912.[2]

The canal.
As ocean-going ships grew larger, Nyhavn was taken over by internal Danish small vessel freight traffic. After World War II land transport took over this role and small vessel traffic disappeared from the Port of Copenhagen, leaving Nyhavn largely deserted of ships.

In the mid-1960s, the Nyhavn Society (Danish: Nyhavnsforeningen) was founded with the aim of revitalising Nyhavn. In 1977, Nyhavn was inaugurated as a veteran ship and museum harbour by Overborgmester i København (Copenhagen’s Lord Mayor) Egon Weidekamp.

New on 500px : White Boat Oresund Sunset by eyeofalens by eyeofalens

Please pop White Boat Oresund Sunset on Black

Another image from my remarkable evening some weeks back knee deep out in the Oresund looking towards the magnificent Oresund bridge that spans between Sweden & Denmark .
The boat by this stage had slowly moved itself to this angle with the slow moving undercurrent as the tide came in.
The glass like conditions stayed like this for quite some time before a light breeze blew in from the south behind me.

New on 500px : Oresund Tranquility by eyeofalens by eyeofalens

Please pop this on Black for some Oresund Tranquility

This was one image captured last week amongst many on what was the most unbelievably still evening looking out over the Oresund between Sweden & Denmark .
The water was simply like glass & any little movement id make at knee level would send ripples across the water.
After this the sky exploded into a kaldescope of colors

New on 500px : Oresund Sunset Explosion by eyeofalens by eyeofalens

Please pop this on black for an Oresund Sunset Explosion

Well I new that the Oresund stretch between Sweden & Denmark can put on some remarkable sunsets delivered by nature & after again keeping an eye on the sky & seeing what the clouds & sun were doing yesterday evening I made the 10 mins drive & knee deep wade to the this remarkable location. I couldn’t believe how still it was …like a glass mirror & for the Oresund thats remarkable as Skane is know as a very windy location . This image is not as still as it was when I arrived when it truly was like glass & is just one of many images captured on a very remarkable evening …but still I know this place can deliver more.
All I have done to the image is tonality & high dynamic control, pulled on the shadows of the boat, applied luminosity mask & orton layer…the rest is nature.

I’m sure there will be some doubters on the colors ..to those I’ll gladly supply a copy of the raw file & they can make there own judgment.

New on 500px : Bye Bye Oresund by eyeofalens by eyeofalens

Pop it on black please to get a full shot of Scandinavian sunset colors!

Another shot from my new favorite 10 mins drive location that only took me almost 10 years to discover! …well not quite 10, more like 7 years, but 10 sounds better & is a nice even number.
This was actually really a test for a camera I was testing in conditions that I like & it passed with full marks as the sun says Bye Bye Oresund for another day.

New on 500px : Oresund Resting by eyeofalens by eyeofalens

Pop in on black …pretty please!?

I have so many slightly different compositions ( particularly the perspective with the size ratio of the boat & bridge ) & also some longer exposures I’ve had a hell of time trying to decipher which I liked more than others.
Captured saturday evening just gone when these god rays just hanged around for well over an hour doing different breaks of light
