This was taken just before sunrise during a recent trip to the Outerbanks. This is the Manteo Lighthouse. It’s an awesome little lighthouse that sits on Shallowbag bay which is on the interior side of the Outer Banks closest to Nags Head. I actually managed to create this shot in between some light rain and as you can see from the sky, another storm was lined up to move in really soon.
I was actually in the OBX for a landscape photography workshop which was coming ot a close on this morning. I love the balance, and depth of this image and also the serenity and storm. There’s just a very interesting mix of elements going on. Technically, this is a 65 second long exposure taken using a 10-stop B+W nd filter with my D800 and a Nikon 24-70. Hope you enjoy! Took this photo back in 2009. One of the most amazing electrical storms I have witnessed. Hardly any rain fell which made photographing it a much easier mission.

Beautiful sunrise taken with a super long exposure, over the Wolderwijd, Zeewolde, the Netherlands. This little old dock is part of a little island where I spend the morning alone. (Sins nobody lives there).
