New on 500px : Upper Navajo Falls by dswindler by dswindler

During the big flood of 2008, several new waterfalls were formed as the power of nature forged a new path for Havasu Creek. This is the first of the new waterfalls called Upper Navajo Falls. Although the Havasupai area isn’t back to its former glory prior to 2008, its nice to see that nature is slowly rebuilding. This shot is a manual blend of 3 different exposures. I used a 10-stop ND filter to smooth out the water and help enhance the reflected glow.

New on 500px : Blue Palouse by ZackClothier by ZackClothier

On a recent trip to Oregon I made a stop at Palouse Falls in eastern Washington. The 198ft falls on the Palouse River is one of the most scenic waterfalls in the state.

For this shot I had my camera and tripod perched on the edge of the cliff a few hundred feet above the river’s canyon, in the dark, being extremely careful not to knock over the tripod or trip over a rock and end up down there myself!

New on 500px : A Stream of Green by frazierphotography by frazierphotography

A small mossy stream winds through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. After living on the west coast for a while now, I was amazed at how green and full of life everything was.

Probably should view on black…

Lower Lewis River Falls · Lewis River · Gifford Pinchot National Forest · Cougar · Washington · USA

A warm midsummer’s day ends with a spectacular bang as the sky explodes in a kaleidoscope of sunset colors above always-amazing Lower Lewis River Falls. I’ve seen some pretty righteous sunset shots from this location before, but invariably they’re shot from the top of the falls looking toward the light, rather than from downstream and in the opposite direction as it is here. In fact, in the full-resolution image you can see a photographer with his tripod set up at the top left corner of the falls shooting in my direction. Wouldn’t surprise me one bit if it was someone I know through Facebook…and perhaps has since de-friended me for getting in his shot… 🙂

New on 500px : Palouse Falls with the Milky Way by jeremyvesely by jeremyvesely

Palouse Falls with the Milky Way overhead. This is a composite image. The sky was taken at ISO 4000, f/2.8, 30 seconds. The foreground was taken at ISO 50, f/22, 30 seconds. Both taken with a Canon 5D Mark III and 16-35mm at 16mm.
This falls is literally in the middle of nowhere. It took 2 and a half hours to arrive at the falls leaving from Coeur D’Alene, ID. I took this drive after driving 6 hours from Portland, OR. I have always wanted to photograph the falls, so I didn’t let 11 hours of driving in one day sway me from getting a photograph of it. I got back to my hotel around 2:30am in the morning. Long day, but it was worth it!

New on 500px : Symmetry vs Chaos by StefanHefele by StefanHefele

Waterfalls everywhere… Between mountains, coast and forest I explored a huge load of fairytale waterfalls here in the north-west of the States. One more reason to really love this diverse part of our planet. Here is a composition from Watson Falls. This was more like a balancing act between the huge rocks and the rushing water for me :-).
