It was my 3rd time to visit this place but my 2nd time to shoot and still didn’t get a good light for both sunset/sunrise. A bad weather forecast and we’re just hopefully to see some miracle to happen. Only a handful of moments to see a glimpse of good light but the rest was mostly cloudy + showers. I still want to get back to this place and will plan better to have good timing.

Images of Milford Sound, probably the mod iconic view in New Zealand are a dime a dozen. And there’s not a whole lot distinctive in this version either even among my own portfolio. However I’m finding some zen from the softness and ethereal appearance of the peaks partially covered in low cloud. Rather than crank up contrast as is fashionable nowadays, I’ve kept the processing understated.

Hidden behind the square thumbnail, if you have clicked on this image, is the rest of the panorama !! This was taken on a beautiful frosty morning on our trip in 2012 when Charlotte would peacefully sleep on our back with like 10 layers on! These days, we have to divide parental duties due to 2 year old and 1 month old demands but hoping to get back to these scenes in a few years 🙂

Sunset at Shallow Bay, Lake Manapouri in Fiordland, New Zealand. Walked a segment of the famous Kepler track to get to this beautiful spot for sunset. Due to time constraints (and laziness), we drove to the Rainbow Reach carpark. From there it is a ~3 hour return walk to Shallow Bay, though it took us much longer due to frequent photos stops along the way.
