This past weekend, my wife and I decided to spend one night in Mount Rainier NP. The purpose of this trip was mostly to scout a new area, and see what was there. If anything.

On our way back to the car, I noticed that a pretty awesome lenticular clouds was forming. I stopped and took a few shots but I wasn’t pleased with the comp. So I decided to just appreciate the moment and let go of trying to make photographs.

Once at the parking lot, I remembered a spot I’d found the year before. This isn’t a secret spot or anything. It’s the Emons Glacier vista, which is one of my favorite view points in the park. And I wanted to show it to my wife. So we walked over there and that’s when the sky simply went off. No warning or anything. Went nuclear in a jiffy.

Anyway, thanks for looking, check the links above and follow me on Facebook! 😀

Sunrise light begins to illuminate a redwoods grove in the Boy Scout Trail, near Crescent City, CA. Out of all the groves and trails that we visited, Boy Scout trail was my favorite by far. It was like being in the Jurassic, amongst ferns that, in some instances were as tall as my shoulders. And then there’s those amazing redwood trees! A really humbling experience to be standing next to a living organism that is 10 times older than me, or even older.

Thank you for looking!

* See it in black. Or not. I don’t care! Oh, and I was gonna go for some pedantic title like “Beams of Hope” or something silly like that, but opted against it.

From a recent trip down to northern California and then drive back to Seattle via highway 101 along the Oregon coast.

To this day one of my favorite Redwoods images is from my pal TJ Thorne, “Endor Redwoods” (http://ift.tt/1mwF27X) but I wanted to find my own comp at this location so I made the trip. I was hoping for some awesome conditions with dense fog and prime rhoddies.

Of course that wasn’t the case! Probably a high pressure system off the coast because it was nothing but clear, blue skies and not a single day with fog. Either am or pm. And so, these were the best conditions I found. And I actually like this quite a bit!

New on 500px : Crossing the Divide by snyder7 by snyder7

Photoshop instruction via Skype | Tutorial Video | Prints | Facebook Can I please suggest that you see this in the black screen?

The forest has been kind to me this year. Each time I’ve gone to the rainforest, I’ve come back with at least a keeper. The coast on the other hand, hasn’t played along so well.

Every process has a beginning, a middle and an end. Each part of the process, has three parts as well: the beginning of the beginning, the middle of the beginning, the end of the beginning, and so on.

The middle in any process, is The Great Divide. That part where the beginning and the enthusiasm related to getting going is long gone, and the end is still too far away. This is where processes either derail, or gain momentum and flourish. Whatever the case, the energy required to move along comes from within us.

On this particular shooting excursion, I had hit the middle the day before. I felt tired, grumpy, filthy (hadn’t showered in several days). I had no desire to shoot, explore, etc. Nothing! The strategy employed when this happened, was to simply chill, don’t force things and simply observe and let go.

The following morning, which is when this photograph was made, my energy was back up again, and I was ready to open myself to observing again. And it didn’t take long to found this scene.

The way the hanging moss on the trees gets lit by the rising sun, makes them seem like they are lit by electricity. The bed of clover on the ground compliments the entire frame rather nicely!

Let me know what you think, ok!

New on 500px : Panther Mist by snyder7 by snyder7

This is Panther Creek Falls in the Gifford-Pinchot Forest in Washington State. And this another image from my recent trip to the Olympic Peninsula and the Columbia Gorge, with fellow photographer Ted Gore. On this day, we were also with two Canadian photographers Rob Lafreniere and Justin Grimm.

Getting to the falls is a bit tricky, and nearly impossible to find if you’ve never been there before, or are going with someone that has. You pretty much park on the side of the road, and walk down an unmarked trail. At the bottom of the trail, you need to find a spot to scramble down to this vantage point, or you could stay up and shoot them at a weird, side angle.

Given that it had rained pretty hard for the past 2 days, the flow on all the waterfalls in the Gorge was pretty strong. On this morning, the spray from the falls themselves was ridiculous. I was wearing waders, rubber boots and a gore-tex jacket. I pretty much looked like an Umpa Lumpa. However, anything that was exposed, was soaking wet after just a few moments.

I ran out of dry cloths to wipe my lens dry, so I used my rocket blower to dry the front of the lens as best as possible, and stuck the camera into a zip lock plastic bag. The idea was to compose and get ready to shoot as soon as you pressed the shutter button. This was the only workable photograph from that day. Everything else is covered in water drops.

Message me if you would like to learn more about my work, get information about prints, etc. Otherwise, your comments are very welcome!
