New on 500px : Písac by fredmatos by fredmatos

New on 500px : Machu Picchu by Filippo by Filippo

Machu Picchu is a 15th-century Inca site located 2,430 metres (7,970 ft) above sea level. It is located in the Cusco Region, Urubamba Province, Machupicchu District in Peru. Most archaeologists believe that Machu Picchu was built as an estate for the Inca emperor Pachacuti (1438–1472). Often mistakenly referred to as the “Lost City of the Incas”, it is perhaps the most familiar icon of Inca civilization.

New on 500px : Fortress of Ollantaytambo, Peru by ClintBurkinshaw by ClintBurkinshaw

The sun slowly heads towards the horizon over Ollantaytambo in the Sacred Valley, southern Peru. A long day of travelling through the magnificent Sacred Valley just outside of Cusco, visiting one ancient Incan ruin after another, had us end at this amazing spot.

Ollantaytambo was the royal estate of Emperor Pachacuti during the Incan Empire. It served as a stronghold for Manco Inca Yapanqui during the time of the Spanish conquest of Peru. In modern times it is a fascinating stop for tourism, as the ruins sit at nearly 2.8km’s in altitude, and is a common place to commence the four day Inca Trail trek to Machu Picchu.

This shot is a panorama consisting of 8 photographs stitched together. Each taken @ 10mm focal length. So while the area is actually quite close, the ultra-wide perspective gives the scene quite a bit of depth.
