New on 500px : Shanghai New Town at Night by AnakinYang by AnakinYang

This part of Shanghai is much newer than rest of the city, two decades ago it was nothing but farm lands. In order to fit the ever growing population, the government started developing residential area and shopping centers here and thus this part of the town doesn’t have the “old plus new cityscape” like the rest of Shanghai. The lights here at night are absolutely beautiful from all the people heading home from work, late. And the museum on the right has interesting architecture.

New on 500px : Black Hole Device, Shanghai by AnakinYang by AnakinYang

The Bund is probably the most visited tourism place in Shanghai, and in my opinion, especially great at night for photography. The city lights, the people, and the Huang Pu River just make up a fantastic night landscape. During my stay in Shanghai earlier in 2013, I went to photograph the Bund so many times at night but never got tired of it. I took this particular one from a not very popular photo spot, which gave the unique look to it, but the city lights still look amazing. This is the kind of scene you can only see in Asian cities, but not anywhere here in the States because we don’t have that high of population density I guess. There is this building by the shore of the old pier in Shanghai, it’s made to look like a singularity (black hole). I guess the Chinese government is so loaded they’ll spend money building anything.

I took this particular one from a pedestrian overpass on the main highway next to the bund, which gave the unique look to it, but the city lights still look amazing with the new town area on the right side of the image across the river. New on 500px : Storm’s coming, at East Pole Islands (东极岛) by AnakinYang by AnakinYang

This is different angle take of a photo I uploaded a while ago. During my trip to China, I went to these remote islands about 40 miles off the coast of mainland China, called “The East Pole Islands”. Although I grew up in a bigger island city near that, I’ve never actually been to the East Pole Islands. These little islands have no sign of industrialization, unlike the rest of China, and they’ve been perfectly perserved, with very little population density. All of their economy is supported by tourism basically, and these outdoor restaurants are where they serve seafood (delicious) basically.
When I took this shot, the sunny sky was already crowded with fast moving clouds, which signaled impending thunderstorm. And naively, I thought it wouldn’t matter because my hotel was so close by. So I went to the local bar with my mates (without umbrella oops), and 30 mins after I took this shot. Thunderstorm came and we had to run back in heavy rain after a long wait for the monsoon to stop. Got all my camera gears wet, but good thing is my bag was very weather resistant, only a tiny bit of water got in. Lucky me.

New on 500px : The Harbor at Dusk by AnakinYang by AnakinYang

During my trip to China, I went to these remote islets about 40 miles off the coast of mainland China, called “The East Pole Islets”. These little islands have no sign of industrialization like the rest of China, and they’ve been perfectly perserved, much like the National Parks in our country. This shot was taken at dusk hours at the dock of one of the islands where I spent 2 days at. As the waves collided wit the pebble beach, it made a very fine tune of its own. The harbor nearly had no boat docking there. All in all, best place I’ve ever been to thus far, even better than most of the American landscapes !

New on 500px : A River Runs through It by AnakinYang by AnakinYang

Shanghai is probably one of the most beautiful night cities in the world (provided when there is no air pollution, LOL). Because most of the town has the “old + new” building structures tightly packed together everywhere. It’s no exception here, Here there is the old part of the town, with the old styled houses, and the 8 lane freeway running right across the middle of the city. A city that is much alive near midnight.

New on 500px : San Francisco Seaside on a Cloudy Day by AnakinYang by AnakinYang

San Francisco has fog for over 2/3 of the year, but what’s most beautiful are the days when there are low, fast moving clouds in the sky. Which in long exposure shots, make the clouds look like melting cotton candies. This is San Francisco’s Pier 9 on a cloudy day near sunset hours, the fast moving clouds were absolutely beautiful.
