New on 500px : The Promise by protik by protik

Ever since I came across of Chip Phillip’s take on this scene http://ift.tt/1kUf52H , I wanted to have a version of my own. But for the last few years things were just not lining up. In some years the patterns were not ‘perfect’ while the other times I was not there in the ‘right’ season.
Even this year I was late by 2-3 weeks from the peak colors. Moreover it was extremely windy with rain drops when i appeared on the steptoe buttee. The sky was covered with thick clouds. I thought about going back to the motel multiple times, but as optimistic as i am, decided to hang in there anyway. It paid off.
Just before the sunset, the horizon started opening up. Yes it was way too windy and was a constant struggle keeping the front element free of rain drops, but how can you complian when you get this kind of magic light? While i was capturing this, the most perfect rainbow appeared on the sky to my left .
More pics to follow 🙂

this picture is teamwork – my dear friend Ole Henrik Skjelstad (http://ift.tt/1dZZgk3) did the image processing for me.
Thank you very much Ole, with your magical hands you transformed my picture into this fabulous fairyland.

New on 500px : Wind, Sun and Stone by PedroQuintela1 by PedroQuintela1

Monsanto was built under and over the granite. Due to the interest motivated by one of my last images, I decided to revisit the antique village and try to capture a little more of its spirit. After a couple of hours I found this place that, at least to me, symbolizes the roughness of living among the boulders since many, many centuries.
With this God´s view I had no other chance but make a panorama shot, blending three images, because only one couldn’t show all the beauty. This was trickier than I first thought, because of the 17 mm distortion and the lack of space. Also used a 0,9 ND grad and placed the tripod to wait for the (windy) sunset, in particulary the moment of the sun flair, to add a little more magic.
I hope you all like it and if you want I´ll upload some more. Have a great day and thanks so much for the support and comments.

New on 500px : Witchcraft by Shainblum by Shainblum

PLEASE VIEW ON BLACK!

To be amongst some of the oldest living trees in the world is quite a unique experience. My night at Patriarch Grove in particular was unforgettable. The moonless sky was like nothing I had ever seen before, and the beautiful white rock reflected all of the star glow. This glow provided natural ambient light for not only the photographs, but also to help us see where we were going without LED headlamps. The green cast you are seeing in the sky is called “airglow” and it is natural to the photograph. I was able to take this photograph with one exposure and some post processing, although I did not light up the tree or do any exposure blending. This is one RAW frame with color correction, contrast, noise reduction, and selective dodging and burning. Words can not express how beautiful the sky was up in the White Mountains of California, however, I hope this photograph does some justice to what I saw there that night.
