Into the Light – Mandalay, Myanmar
It was one of those fortuitous moment, when everything seemed to be right. The sun was hiding behind the clouds, partially lighting up the courtyard of this temple. Right at that moment, a monk coming down from the stair, and walked right into the light.
I took a few shots, with one left, and one right in addition to the one with the monk. Then stitched them into this pano…
These were taken handheld with the 16-35mm F4.

Bagan is an ancient city located in the Mandalay Region of Burma (Myanmar). From the 9th to 13th centuries, the city was the capital of the Kingdom of Pagan, the first kingdom to unify the regions that would later constitute modern Myanmar. During the kingdom’s height between the 11th and 13th centuries, over 10,000 Buddhist temples, pagodas and monasteries were constructed in the Bagan plains alone, of which the remains of over 2200 temples and pagodas still survive to the present day.

Мингун-Пайя (окрестности Мандалая, Мьянма) – это огромная кирпичная пагода, которая должна была стать самой большой ступой в мире высотой 150 метров. Строилась она в течении 23 лет и была построена только на треть (53 м), так как астрологи предсказали королю Бодопаю смерть, как только он закончит ее строительство.
Услышав такое предсказание, король тут же, в 1813 году, свернул стройку. Но это его не спасло от скорой смерти и он умер всего спустя 6 лет. А в 1839 году недостроенная пагода пострадала в результате землетрясения, которое оставило на ней гигантские трещины.
Мингун-Пайя огромна, особенно хорошо ее масштаб виден в сравнении с ростом человека. На нее было потрачено столько кирпича, камней и труда, что она чуть не разорила всю империю, может быть, именно поэтому и появилось то предсказание о смерти короля, что если он достроит Пагоду, то погибнет вся империя.

Shot with Lee ND filters and Big Stop filter. I like the experience of taking long exposures. You got a good time stand by the camera while it’s doing its job and left the constantly changing landscape for you to enjoy. However, it just took me something like half an hour to clean up the garbage that used to be on the foreground grass in PS. That, my friend, was a nightmare. Maybe I shall carry a broom to the filed next time.
