The sun was setting, lighting up with the last rays the stones in the foreground.
A few years earlier I had photographed this same point. It was interesting go back there to make a shot with a lens that previously I didn’t possess, obtaining a larger view.
The island of Vrångö, located to the west of Gothenburg, in Sweden, is the less populated of the islands of Göteborgs Södra Skärgård and offers some very interesting scenarios.

Etna had an another one of its paroxysms. In this event me and my cousin reached the Valle del Bove, a great point to see the eruption of the Southeast Crater.
Initially, we had to seek shelter among the rocks because the wind was too strong, but it doesn’t worked; In fact, after we pitched the tent to get a greater repair but most especially to change the optics in peace.
For this photography I made an exposure for the sky and another for the ground, then I merged them toghether using Photoshop, finally I made some adjusting of contrast, light and shadow.

New on 500px : Night on Etna #4 by marcocalandra89 by marcocalandra89

The volcano Etna continues its eruption characterized by continuous paroxysms with new lava fountains and new lava flows.
I went to the Valle del Bove with my cousin to see this spectacular show.
The sky was very clear, the moon was not visible (it was visible a little bit later around midnight) and the stars could be seen very clearly. There was a single problem: the wind.
We were at a high altitude, about 2500 meters, so the wind was very evident. We were therefore forced to seek shelter behind some rocks.
I executed the Startrail with 100 shots interspersed with 30 seconds exposure and then I merged them together.

New on 500px : Violets during the sunrise by marcocalandra89 by marcocalandra89

On my last excursion on Mount Etna I was looking for something different from the usual images of the volcano erupting: I wanted to show the vegetation, the nature that exists on this volcano.
I spent so all night taking night photography with the volcanic landscape. The photograph that has given me more satisfaction that day was this taken at the Violets during the sunrise when they were illuminated by the first rays of the sun.
The image was made with a double exposure, one for the sky and the other for the ground and were later merged in Photoshop.

New on 500px : Rifugio Galvarina in the night by marcocalandra89 by marcocalandra89

Finally the new moon come. The weather forecast promised clear sky from clouds, so I had to find a place to realize a shot of the Milky Way, because in these cases it’s more visible. So, in the afternoon I went to the volcano Etna volcano and I started the long path that leads to the “Rifugio Galvarina”. Six and a half kilometers alternating between forests and solidified lava where you could admire the beauty of the nature.
When I arrived, even though there was no light pollution, I was not able to see the Milky Way as I would expected, so I searched a good position to realize a startrail. I photographed before the ground, then the sky and through Photoshop I fused them together adjusting finally some other parameters.

The 6th May I and my friends were leaving with the “Wild Rover Day Tours” to arrive at the Cliffs of Moher, also known in Irish: Aillte an Mhothair.
In addition to the latter, the destinations of the day were Burren and Galway City.
Burren which is said in Irish, Boireann , means “stony district” or “big rock” and is composed of a vast limestone plateau unique in the world that covers most of Clare, in Ireland.
Unfortunately, we made there only a brief stop of 15-20 minutes, but we had the opportunity to see the breathtaking cliffs.

New on 500px : Cliffs of Moher #2 by marcocalandra89 by marcocalandra89

During my trip to Ireland in May 2014, in addition to visiting Dublin, the city where I stayed, I decided to visit the amazing Cliffs of Moher, located in the opposite side of Ireland.
Thanks to the “Wild Rover Day Tours” I’ve been able to reach the destination. The show was impressive: big cliffs over 200 meters to admire at with the endless sea in background.
I have not been able to realize the image I had in mind because the weather didn’t permit it, but I wasn’t so unlucky as I thought, because in addition to the wind the rain could also be added too which fortunately did not happen.
The time to spend there wasn’t so much, so I ran to the Cliffs to search a classic frame to come home with.

Realize a perfect composition was very difficult, both for safety reasons and for atmospheric reasons. In addition to the wind, that was not conducive to the tourists, I didn’t have so much time to stay there, because we were still waiting for many other tour destinations that day.
