New on 500px : Supermoon Rebirth by cwexplorationphotography by cwexplorationphotography

The third time was definitely the charm up on Johnston Ridge as I finally caught one of the most gorgeous and longest sunsets I had ever seen and a supermoon rise as an added bonus. This was taken just after 10pm as the moon rose up over the mountain. The sunset was still lingering and light pink glow illuminated the western side of the mountain while the bright moonlight enveloped the eastern side of the blast zone. It was absolutely gorgeous and made for one heck of a memorable night. As an added bonus I ran into two local photogs Kristina Wilson and Paul Bowman; small world!!

New on 500px : Midnight Rider by KristinaWilson by KristinaWilson

I took a quick last minute drive out to St. Helen’s the other night and ended staying up well past my bed time. Started driving home and then turned around and went back to wait around for sunrise. I kept my imagination in check, even though my brother recently called me up from Sweden non stop talking about missing people and how I need to be more careful. This is bigfoot country after all. 😉

New on 500px : Miss Independent by ramij by ramij

Instead of catching fireworks on the 4th of July, I decided to take the 2 hour drive to shoot wildflowers on Mt. St. Helens. Thought I’d miss fireworks, but my trip on the way back was a “drive-through fireworks” display through the back roads of Washington. It seemed every home had their personal show going off in their backyard. Very cool experience on both fronts.

Technically, this one was an absolute bear to process. Something like 10 focus stacked shots and manually blending that took me longer than I’d like to admit. I wanted to get up close and personal with the wildflowers, which meant focus blending was critical for sharpness front to back. It’s not perfect but I couldn’t look at it any longer. I’ll definitely be back to this location again next year.

New on 500px : Stunned by RyanDyar by RyanDyar

Figured I’d toss this one up before the big influx of Mount Saint Helens shots flood your guys’ flow in the coming weeks.

I’m out for the weekend to hunt some lesser known waterfalls. I’ll report back on how much poison oak I get.

Anyways, I recently released a tutorial video that covers some of the techniques I use in my processing. I also lead in-field workshops, teach processing online via Skype screen sharing, and blah blah blah.

Also, I’m happy to announce that I will be co-leading a tour in March with my friend Arild Heitmann! 10 epic days of chasing light across Norway. Mountains, beaches, beaches with mountains, Aurora, long arctic sunrises and sunsets. It’s destined to be the trip of lifetime!

You can check it all out at Ryan Dyar Photography.

New on 500px : Life Among the Ruins by davidleahy by davidleahy

It is so beautiful when the wild flowers are in bloom on Mt. St. Helens. I stayed into the night and got to see the Milky Way over the mountain, as well.
