New on 500px : Supermoon Rebirth by cwexplorationphotography by cwexplorationphotography

++view on black++

The third time was definitely the charm up on Johnston Ridge as I finally caught one of the most gorgeous and longest sunsets I had ever seen and a supermoon rise as an added bonus. This was taken just after 10pm as the moon rose up over the mountain. The sunset was still lingering and light pink glow illuminated the western side of the mountain while the bright moonlight enveloped the eastern side of the blast zone. It was absolutely gorgeous and made for one heck of a memorable night. As an added bonus I ran into two local photogs Kristina Wilson and Paul Bowman; small world!!

New on 500px : Miss Independent by ramij by ramij

Instead of catching fireworks on the 4th of July, I decided to take the 2 hour drive to shoot wildflowers on Mt. St. Helens. Thought I’d miss fireworks, but my trip on the way back was a “drive-through fireworks” display through the back roads of Washington. It seemed every home had their personal show going off in their backyard. Very cool experience on both fronts.

Technically, this one was an absolute bear to process. Something like 10 focus stacked shots and manually blending that took me longer than I’d like to admit. I wanted to get up close and personal with the wildflowers, which meant focus blending was critical for sharpness front to back. It’s not perfect but I couldn’t look at it any longer. I’ll definitely be back to this location again next year.

New on 500px : Partly Sunny by DustinGent by DustinGent

Taken a few weeks ago, same trip as my last MSH shot – just a bit earlier. I over sharpened this one on accident/purpose – the thumbnail on 500px looked bad.. oh well 馃檪

New on 500px : Stunned by RyanDyar by RyanDyar

Figured I’d toss this one up before the big influx of Mount Saint Helens shots flood your guys’ flow in the coming weeks.

I’m out for the weekend to hunt some lesser known waterfalls. I’ll report back on how much poison oak I get.

Anyways, I recently released a tutorial video that covers some of the techniques I use in my processing. I also lead in-field workshops, teach processing online via Skype screen sharing, and blah blah blah.

Also, I’m happy to announce that I will be co-leading a tour in March with my friend Arild Heitmann! 10 epic days of chasing light across Norway. Mountains, beaches, beaches with mountains, Aurora, long arctic sunrises and sunsets. It’s destined to be the trip of lifetime!

You can check it all out at Ryan Dyar Photography.

New on 500px : Mt St Helens Sunrise by kevinmcneal by kevinmcneal

This was taken a few years ago from the Johnson Ridge area on Mt St Helens. At the time there was some surrounding wildfires which really helped with the atmospheric conditions that morning. I am looking forward to getting up there again this year as spring has it very early this year up there.
Thanks for looking !

Probably should view on black…

Lower Lewis River Falls 路 Lewis River 路 Gifford Pinchot National Forest 路 Cougar 路 Washington 路 USA

A warm midsummer’s day ends with a spectacular bang as the sky explodes in a kaleidoscope of sunset colors above always-amazing Lower Lewis River Falls. I’ve seen some pretty righteous sunset shots from this location before, but invariably they’re shot from the top of the falls looking toward the light, rather than from downstream and in the opposite direction as it is here. In fact, in the full-resolution image you can see a photographer with his tripod set up at the top left corner of the falls shooting in my direction. Wouldn’t surprise me one bit if it was someone I know through Facebook…and perhaps has since de-friended me for getting in his shot… 馃檪

New on 500px : Luck by DustinGent by DustinGent

On the way back from spending the weekend in the Olympics with my wife, I talked her into letting me try my luck at MSH. NOAA forecasted 22% cloud cover at sunrise – however when Mt. St. Helens was first visible from the road, there were no clouds.

An hour later, there were some clouds. Flowers are still blooming, so if you haven’t visited here yet, fear not as it will be prime within a few weeks.
