This image was taken on the afternoon prior to the ‘Angelus Rising’ shot here : [Angelus Rising]
The plan was to shoot a sunset from the opposite ridge and Hinapouri tarn but 100km winds and horizontal sleet put paid to that and I had to wait for the following morning! Personally, I like this image better but the light in the previous!
This is the falloff from Lake Angelus in Nelson Lakes National Park. Beneath the steep falloff is the start of the beautiful cascade trail which leads all the way back to St Arnaud, the town from which most hiking activities in the area area based. The trail to Angelus Lake hut can be taken along 3 routes. The route along Robert Ridge is spectacular for its exposure along a ridgeline. The cascade route is flowing with constant cascades until the base of lake of Rotoiti. The third route is via speargrass hut which I have not explored though I’m told it’s probably the least spectacular of the three. Also plan to spend lots of time in the hut as I certainly wished I had more than one short night there! (Apologies for the re-upload – the last version was in a wrong colour space!)
