This one will look better by viewing on black. Click the photo to make that happen.

I don’t have many chances to get out to nature currently. “Life gets in the way of living” kind of stuff. When my friend Tula invited me on a hike on one of the busiest trails in Oregon on the Fourth of July… I felt no hesitation about tagging along.

I think my favorite image from the day is this one right here. I was hanging out in a cave when I noticed the backlit ferns. Not thinking anything of it.. I just started shooting. I was lucky enough to catch the sun peeking through the space between the top of the cave and the opposing ridge line. Water dripping down the outside cliff face adds another pleasing element to the scene.

Yeah.. there was a line at the payment box in the parking lot. Yeah.. there was barely any parking. Yup… there was a highway of people walking up the trail and cooling off in the waters. Yes.. I shot Punchbowl Falls. But sometimes when you have those chances to get out and immerse yourself in natural beauty you just need to suck it up and let that opportunity shine.

Thanks for reading.

New on 500px : Staircase Falls by RyanDyar by RyanDyar

I’m sure by now that many of you have seen my girlfriend’s awesome take on this little known, yet extremely impressive waterfall. We went out a couple weeks back with my buddy Chris to track down some waterfalls that were off the beaten path (for photographers anyway) and found some really awesome stuff. It felt great to see some stuff that’s not in the Columbia River Gorge, as this particular forest had an entirely different feel to it.

The low sloping angle coupled with the perspective from shooting this at 14mm makes it appear to be a rather small waterfall… but in reality this beauty is well over 100ft tall and cascades amazingly down this series of striated rock. Probably one of the coolest waterfalls I’ve had the chance to shoot. Kudos to Candace for bird dogging this one after researching hundreds of waterfalls.

Anyways, I recently released a tutorial video that covers some of the techniques I use in my processing, including techniques used in this photo. I also lead in-field workshops, teach processing online via Skype screen sharing, and blah blah blah.

Also, I’m happy to announce that I will be co-leading a tour in March with my friend Arild Heitmann! 10 epic days of chasing light across Norway. Mountains, beaches, beaches with mountains, Aurora, long arctic sunrises and sunsets. It’s destined to be the trip of lifetime!

You can check it all out at Ryan Dyar Photography.

New on 500px : Stunned by RyanDyar by RyanDyar

Figured I’d toss this one up before the big influx of Mount Saint Helens shots flood your guys’ flow in the coming weeks.

I’m out for the weekend to hunt some lesser known waterfalls. I’ll report back on how much poison oak I get.

New on 500px : Imminent Connection by alexnoriega by alexnoriega

Stars fade before sunrise at Rialto Beach, Olympic National Park, Washington. Looks best on black.

You never know when you’re on the cusp of something great.

New on 500px : A Glimpse of Paradise by alexnoriega by alexnoriega

Looks best on black.

An image from a couple years ago up at Paradise at Mount Rainier, looking back toward the Tatoosh Range. I posted something from this evening back then, but I somehow missed this exposure where the moon was catching a glimpse of Paradise through a MOONHOLE (credit jSwan) in the fast-moving clouds.

I’ve never posted more than a single image in a day, but I’ve had these finished files lying around for a long time – and it’s a SPECIAL OCCASION! The occasion is that I have been really bad about posting stuff for the last few months. I’m very sorry for any inconVEEFience caused by this deluge of non-groundbreaking imagery!

New on 500px : Elemental by RyanDyar by RyanDyar

Just want to toss up this reprocessed shot real quick while I have a few minutes of down time.

I had to pull a tick off of my “man-plums” last night after shooting. I also have to send my new a7r back to Sony for repair. The Aloe plant I have had for years has died after repotting it. But I got a new shot over the weekend, so I guess I’ve got that going for me.

Anyways, I recently released a tutorial video that covers some of the techniques I use in my processing (ones that were used in the making of this image). I also lead in-field workshops, teach processing online via Skype screen sharing, and blah blah blah.
