New on 500px : Wandering Stars by scottsmorra by scottsmorra

The Milky Way and millions of other stars above Mt Jefferson, Mt Jefferson Wilderness, Oregon.

This is an image from an early season backpacking trip to Jefferson Park several weeks ago with my buddy Jordan Ek. It was a completely moonless night and the stars were absolutely amazing. There was no light pollution at this location, which is an added bonus for central/western Oregon.

Thanks for taking a look and for any comments you have. I really appreciate everyone taking the time to share their thoughts on the image.

New on 500px : Limitless by scottsmorra by scottsmorra

The Milky Way and millions of other stars above Mt St. Helens and a field of summer wildflowers. Mt St. Helens National Volcanic Monument, Washington, June 2013. I really enjoyed this particular evening in the mountains. Watching the stars and clouds move over the mountain while listening to the coyotes howling in the valley below was an incredible experience!

New on 500px : Rowena Sunrise II by scottsmorra by scottsmorra

The first rays of sunlight shining down over a field of Arrowleaf Balsamroot at Rowena Crest in the Eastern Columbia River Gorge.

This image was recently featured in the Pushing Reality Photography Exhibition at the Columbia Center for the Arts in Hood River, Oregon. This gallery show featured an outstanding collection of images which were created in the Columbia River Gorge in 2013. I sold a matted/framed 12×18″ print of the image during the show, which makes this my first ever sale through a gallery!

New on 500px : Awakening – May 18th, 1980 by scottsmorra by scottsmorra

If you are interested in purchasing a 12×18″ signed/matted print of this image please check out —> MY BLOG . I donated 2 prints to the Art for Oso Photography Auction on Facebook (the other print is “Celestial Existence” if you are interested). All of the proceeds from the sale of the prints will be donated to the Cascade Valley Hospital Relief Fund. This fund has been set up to support those affected by the Oso, Washington Mudslide in March 2014. See the blog for more details. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Today (May 18th) marks the 34th Anniversary of the Mt St Helens eruption which forever changed the landscape around the mountain and claimed the lives of 57 people. The eruption shot ash 80,000 feet into the air and flattened 230 square miles of forest, but 34 years later, this area is undergoing a remarkable recovery. The wildflowers are now blooming every summer and small trees are starting to take root once again. All of the vegetation that is seen in this image is natural, since no replanting has occurred within the National Volcanic Monument. Experts believe that in 200-500 years, in the absence of another massive eruption, the area will return to the pre-1980 old growth forest. I doubt this view of the mountain will exist in a few hundred years, since an old growth forest would likely block the view of the mountain. When thinking about it in those terms, I guess this image is somewhat unique!

New on 500px : Awake and Dreaming by scottsmorra by scottsmorra

I’m happy to announce three of my images have been selected for the Pushing Reality Photography Exhibition and Sale at the Columbia Center for the Arts in Hood River, Oregon. If you are interested, you can read more about it on my Blog The image above is from a beautiful sunrise in the Columbia Hills of Washington a few weeks ago. This year’s mix of lupine and Arrowleaf Balsamroot is just about perfect. I was really happy to have a sky which compliments the colors of the flowers in the foreground. I hope you enjoy the image. Thanks in advance for any comments you have. I really appreciate it! Visit My Website/Blog Follow me on Google+ Follow me on Twitter

New on 500px : Under the Oak Tree by scottsmorra by scottsmorra

Sunrise light and spring wildflowers (Arrowleaf Balsamroot and Lupine) in the Columbia Hills of Washington. The waning gibbous moon is also visible above the tree. The wildflowers and sunrise light were incredible yesterday morning. It was a fun morning of shooting with some of the best photographers in the Pacific Northwest (Jeremy Cram, Alan Howe, Michael Bollino, Christina Angquico, Scott Miller, Alex Noriega, Paul Bowman, TJ Thorne). I’m looking forward to seeing everyone’s images from the trip. It was a great morning to be out in the hills, because there was almost no wind….and no ticks! Strong winds are quite common in the Columbia Hills and can make photography a nightmare. The lack of wind yesterday made capturing and processing this image a breeze (pun intended)! Thank you for all of the comments. I really appreciate it. Visit My Website/Blog Follow me on Google+ Follow me on Twitter
