Into The Storm

It was amazing to see how many chasers where out chasing this storm. Literally saw 7 miles of bumper to bumper. I am sure their was a mix between chasers and locals, but still was crazy to see and be in. I got a little break off a side road with no cars when we were watching this cell go over us.

New on 500px : Super Cell Near Ardmore Oklahoma by jamesb859 by jamesb859

This was a massive, tornado warned storm near Ardmore, Oklahoma on April 13th, 2014. The structure of this beautiful storm was amongst the best I’ve ever seen and the sun setting beneath it was just icing on the cake. This was shot at 16mm, which sort of distorts the fact that this shelf cloud was literally right on top of us at the time. To see what the lens saw, I had to lean my head all the way back. That’s why you can see so far underneath the shelf and get all the glowing details along with the skud clouds and rain curtain. Right after I took this shot we had to hop in the chase car and try and outrun the storm as it was headed toward us at around 35mph. Please feel free to share and like!
