When we got to the lake, it was snowing and the lake was practically frozen. Disheartened, on the way back I found this opening between the rocks where this stream was gushing forth, forming part of the Kunhar River that cuts through the valley for over a 100km.

I don’t expect this one to do great on 500px, as these types of shots seem to not resonate with a large audience. But this one of my favorite images I’ve put together in a while… taken in the Northern Rockies from high on a trail over looking a deep valley below during a foggy sunrise.
For me, it brings back the feeling of being there by myself on that trail, surrounded by a dark and cold mist, amongst black bear, moose, and elk… all of which I saw on this morning. It’s days like this that make Montana such a special place to me.
Anyways, I recently released a tutorial video that covers some of the techniques I use in my processing. I also lead in-field workshops, teach processing online via Skype screen sharing, and blah blah blah.
Also, I’m happy to announce that I will be co-leading a tour in March with my friend Arild Heitmann! 10 epic days of chasing light across Norway. Mountains, beaches, beaches with mountains, Aurora, long arctic sunrises and sunsets. It’s destined to be the trip of lifetime!
You can check it all out at Ryan Dyar Photography.

Everyone shoots the famous Moulton barns just north of this meadow….but I think the meadow itself is one sweet photo spot.
