New on 500px : Stormy Na Pali by silentgphotography by silentgphotography

Another shot of Na Pali Coast taken from ol’ Captain Andy’s romantic, sunset dinner cruise.

I have to say, folks on board were NOT ready for this type of weather, but when it cleared up we were in sunset, rainbow paradise.

I have so many frames of this section of Na Pali from the Pacific, so thought I’d go with some of my favorite workflow using VSCO filters.

New on 500px : The Starry Sky of the Spitzkoppe by laurenmetzler by laurenmetzler

I shot this while standing on an ancient volcano, gazing up at the heavens and painting with light from my torch.

For two weeks, I followed Ben McRae through the Namib desert, across Damaraland and into Kaokoveld.

New on 500px : The Holy Fire by laurenmetzler by laurenmetzler

The Holy Fire is tied to the ancestors of the Himba people, which are their gods. Newcomers must not step between the First Wife’s hut and the Holy Fire. Instead, they go around the back and speak with the Chief of the tribe first. (Or the First Wife if the Chief is away) Afterwards, they have permission to stay in the village as long as they like. The Himba are a nomadic people, some traveling from village to village, and all are welcome.

New on 500px : Black Hole Device, Shanghai by AnakinYang by AnakinYang

The Bund is probably the most visited tourism place in Shanghai, and in my opinion, especially great at night for photography. The city lights, the people, and the Huang Pu River just make up a fantastic night landscape. During my stay in Shanghai earlier in 2013, I went to photograph the Bund so many times at night but never got tired of it. I took this particular one from a not very popular photo spot, which gave the unique look to it, but the city lights still look amazing. This is the kind of scene you can only see in Asian cities, but not anywhere here in the States because we don’t have that high of population density I guess. There is this building by the shore of the old pier in Shanghai, it’s made to look like a singularity (black hole). I guess the Chinese government is so loaded they’ll spend money building anything.

New on 500px : Shanghai at Night by AnakinYang by AnakinYang

The Bund is probably the most visited tourism place in Shanghai, and in my opinion, especially great at night for photography. The city lights, the people, and the Huang Pu River just make up a fantastic night landscape. During my stay in Shanghai earlier in 2013, I went to photograph the Bund so many times at night but never got tired of it. I took this particular one from a pedestrian overpass on the main highway next to the bund, which gave the unique look to it, but the city lights still look amazing with the new town area on the right side of the image across the river. This is the kind of scene you can only see in Asian cities, but not anywhere here in the States because we don’t have that high of population density I guess. pwned

New on 500px : Storm’s coming, at East Pole Islands (东极岛) by AnakinYang by AnakinYang

This is different angle take of a photo I uploaded a while ago. During my trip to China, I went to these remote islands about 40 miles off the coast of mainland China, called “The East Pole Islands”. Although I grew up in a bigger island city near that, I’ve never actually been to the East Pole Islands. These little islands have no sign of industrialization, unlike the rest of China, and they’ve been perfectly perserved, with very little population density. All of their economy is supported by tourism basically, and these outdoor restaurants are where they serve seafood (delicious) basically.
When I took this shot, the sunny sky was already crowded with fast moving clouds, which signaled impending thunderstorm. And naively, I thought it wouldn’t matter because my hotel was so close by. So I went to the local bar with my mates (without umbrella oops), and 30 mins after I took this shot. Thunderstorm came and we had to run back in heavy rain after a long wait for the monsoon to stop. Got all my camera gears wet, but good thing is my bag was very weather resistant, only a tiny bit of water got in. Lucky me.

New on 500px : The Arrival by AnakinYang by AnakinYang

During my trip to China, I went to these remote islets about 40 miles off the coast of mainland China, called “The East Pole Islets”. These little islands have no sign of industrialization like the rest of China, and they’ve been perfectly perserved, much like the National Parks in our country. This shot was taken at on the 1 hour long ferry from the surrounding island, just as the boat was approaching the most remote island of the islets. And it was a very rocky, and long ferry ride. All in all, best place I’ve ever been to thus far, even better than most of the American landscapes !
