New on 500px : MACHU PICCHU VISTA by margeauxferreira by margeauxferreira

After trekking the Salkantay Mountains for 5 days, I finally arrived at Machu Picchu. Having read several books on the subject and looked through countless photos, I admit I fully expected the scene to be grand. But in truth, but nothing could have prepared me for the experience of it. Machu Picchu might just be the most awe-inspiring place I have ever visited. Even in my exhaustion, I wanted to stay, forever. It is as close to heaven as I imagine one can get. I remember thinking that if they’d let me stay, I would never, ever want for anything. It’s not just the pure and utter beauty of the place, the amazing view, or that it is surrounded by mountains and water that makes it so incredible. Standing there, so close to heaven that one can almost touch the sky, light seems to filter through and drown you in a way I have never experienced. It was blissful. It is a place I carry in my heart always.

Yet another “postcard” Machu Picchu shot. Not particularly original but the place is stunning and changes every hour.

New on 500px : Incan Lost city by mbisof by mbisof

Machu Picchu is a 15th-century Inca site located 2,430 metres (7,970 ft) above sea level. It is located in the Cusco Region, Urubamba Province, Machupicchu District in Peru. It is situated on a mountain ridge above the Sacred Valley which is 80 kilometres (50 mi) northwest of Cusco and through which the Urubamba River flows. Most archaeologists believe that Machu Picchu was built as an estate for the Inca emperor Pachacuti (1438–1472). Often mistakenly referred to as the “Lost City of the Incas”, it is perhaps the most familiar icon of Inca civilization.
