The mighty lone willow tree of Lake Wanaka. One of my favorite places during our trip down under. This place is just a normal lake, a normal walkway with people jogging, and some walking their dogs in the morning. It is just this willow tree that attracts photographers and hobbyists everywhere to capture the sunrise with the majestic mountains behind. It is an ethereal scene that makes it one of the most photographed tree in the world.

All my trip to South Island the weather was tough. And this day was not an exception. Winds were rushing down the moutains and along Wanaka at 120km/h transofrming what I knew as a tranquil lake to a stormy one. For some reason all the birds which were not blown off New Zealand chose this particular tree to wait for better weather. While taking the shot I’ve seen several birds bravely trying to reach the tree. No single one could do it in less then three attempts. Some had to give up. But once on the tree they seemed to get content and quitely sat there enjoying the views.
