I have been traveling to Grand Teton National Park for a decade….and have explored every paved and dirt road. But this spring I had a special moment when I was traversing a well traveled road and saw this spring pond out of the corner of my eye. It literally had appeared like magic this spring after being nothing more than a bison wallow for ten years.
The heavy winter snow on the Tetons and in the Jackson Hole Valley had made this a real live pond with a wonderful Teton reflection.
I was chatting with my good friend Joan Earles when I spied this new pond as we drove by it….and I immediately stopped and named it Joan’s Pond since it does not show up on any maps of the area.
So, at least for a few brief days this spring, it was a beautiful pond that we all fell in love with ….. and here’s hoping you will as well.

The nuances of color and light on this beautiful morning at the Blacktail Ponds Overlook were a visual buffet….and very memorable.
